Frequently Asked Questions

01What does slip mean in induction motors?

The rotation speed of the shaft of an induction motor is always lower than the synchronous speed of its magnetic field. Therefore, the difference between these two speeds is called slip in speed or slip in short.

02What is a starter motor?

Electric motors draw a current much higher than the rated current from the grid during startup, which may damage electrical circuits. For this reason, different launchers are used.

03How do Soft Start engines work?

Soft Start is used to temporarily reduce the motor terminal voltage. In fact, in this method, by reducing the voltage applied to the motor, a reduced torque is provided for the soft start of the load.

04What is star-delta setup and why is this method used?

The term “star-triangle” means changing the connection from “star connection” to “triangle connection”. For this purpose, this method is used that the line current in the star connection is 33% of the line current in the delta connection, as a result, with the star connection, the motor will be started with less current.

05Why is the starting current high in induction motors?

At the moment of starting, a very large torque is required to rotate the rotor from rest. In fact, at the moment of starting, when the 3-phase voltage is applied to the stator winding, a large inrush current is required to magnetize the air gap between the stator and the rotor and produce the required starting torque.

06What is lock rotor torque?

Locked rotor torque or starting torque is the torque that an electric motor develops when starting from zero speed.

07What is pull-up torque?

The pull-up torque is the minimum torque produced by the engine when accelerating from rest to operating speed.

08What is the breaking torque?

Breakdown torque is the maximum torque that the motor will be able to produce.

09What equipment can be used to protect the engine?

Usually, to protect the motor against overload or temperature increase, various equipments such as PTC thermistor, thermoguard, overload switch, RTD sensor, anti-condensation heater, etc. are used.

10What is the safe or normal temperature of engine bearings?

The safe operating temperature of deep groove ball bearings is 95°C (70°C for rise temperature and 25°C for ambient temperature). For temperatures above the safe range, bearing re-greasing periods are shortened.

11What is the maximum allowable temperature of the electric motor installation environment?

According to the standard of rotating electric machines (IEC 60034), the permissible temperature range for using an electric motor is between -15 and +40 degrees Celsius.

12What types of bearings are used in Electrogen products?

The bearings used in Electrogen company’s electric motors are of deep groove type, which are divided into two categories: permanent greased (shielded) bearings and relubricable bearings. It should be noted that Electrogen’s industrial electric motors from frame size 180 to 315 are in grease bearing mode.

13What is the insulation class and motor protection class?

The meaning of the motor insulation class is the description of the insulation capacity of the motor winding to withstand heat, and the meaning of the motor protection class is the capacity of the motor to resist the penetration of dust and water.

14How to change the rotation direction of the motor?

To change the direction of rotation in three-phase motors, replace two of the three connections of the power cable. Also, to change the direction of rotation of single-phase motors, be sure to consider how to connect the main, auxiliary and capacitor windings. It may not be possible to change the direction of circulation in some single-phase products.

15Can tours be used with speed control drives?

If you consider the power, torque and speed considerations when using the drive, all the 3-phase motors of Electrogen can be used with the drive.

16Do the engines have the ability to add protective sensors?

Yes, in most cases it is possible to add protection sensors inside the engine.

17How many kilowatts is the power range of Electrogen company's motors?

How many kilowatts is the power range of Electrogen company’s motors?

18How to choose electric motors? What parameters should be considered?

Usually, the type of load applied to the motor and the required torque will determine the power of the selected electric motor. In this selection, parameters such as voltage, current, connection type, starting torque, electric motor speed, etc. should be considered. Also, the requirements of the degree of protection of electric motors (IP) and the type of operation of the electric motor are also important.

19Do motors also work on 60Hz network?

Electric machines designed for 50 Hz can usually work with a 60 Hz power supply. However, to provide the previous power and speed, a higher voltage needs to be applied to them.

20Is it possible to order special engines?

Yes, it will be possible to add some features to the regular motors according to the specific needs of the customer.

21What does head and discharge mean in water pumps?

Flow rate or volume of water pumping means the amount or volume of liquid that is displaced by the water pump per unit of time. The head or pressure of the water pump means the height to which the pump can lift the liquid up to that height.

22What is the difference between KPM, CB, CBT, CM and CAM pumps?

The difference between these pumps is in the type of head, head and flow rate, single phase and three phase, and their output power.

23Are the specifications on the license plate selected based on a certain standard?

These specifications are selected and designed based on the values determined in the electric rotating machines standard (IEC 60034).

24Is there a need to re-grease the bearings?

According to the type of bearing used in the electric motor, the bearings need to be re-greased at specific time periods. Generally, bearings with the possibility of re-greasing are used in frame size 180 and above electric motors. The lubrication periods and their amount are listed on the electric motor nameplate.

25How are the working environmental conditions of each electric motor defined?

In addition to the temperature conditions, the operation of the electric motor, other environmental conditions such as humidity and dust in the working environment of the electric motor should also be considered. The IP code on the nameplate of electric motors represents their degree of environmental protection.

26Do the electric motors manufactured by Electrogen have mechanical brakes?

The usual productions of Electrogen industrial electric motors do not have mechanical brakes.

27Is it possible to install a gearbox on electric motors?

Yes, according to the type of flange of the gearbox and the correct selection of the installation method, it is possible to couple the gearbox to Electrogen industrial electric motors.

28Is it possible to buy parts from the company in case of failure of electric motor parts?

Yes

29Is it possible to buy an electric motor from the factory directly or is it only possible through a sales representative?
